Standard Features

The Model 280XP Heavy-Duty (HD) is our largest and most productive hand-fed disc-style chipper available. The enlarged top feed wheel diameter of its hydraulic feed system is even more powerful than the standard units. It is ideal for those involved in big tree takedowns and light land clearing with its ability to handle and pull large diameter whole trees into the chipper. A 45-degree angled feed provides the necessary efficiency when chipping larger diameter materials. The large opening on the Model 280XP HD is 18 inches by 20-1/2 inches which allows for multiple or large diameter trees to be chipped with ease. 173 to 215 horsepower engine options are available.

Standard Features

The productivity of the Model 280XP HD can be attributed to its powerful dual-wheel feed system consisting of a top feed wheel that is 15-3/4 inches in diameter by 20 inches wide and a bottom feed wheel that has a 10-5/8 inch diameter by 20 inches wide. These feed wheels are driven by (2) 63.9 CID hydraulic motors situated in Bandit's patented and proven slide box feed system. The top feed wheel is assisted by a chain drive and provides a staggering 56,138 inch-pounds of torque. This system boasts superior pulling power and drastically reduces the need to trim or reposition material while feeding it into the chipper.
Material is fed at 100 feet per minute and chipped at a 45-degree angle to the chipper disc, making the unit effective at rapidly shearing through solid, woody materials. This arrangement requires less energy to chip, and will chip larger diameter materials better than a drum-style chipper because it will consume less fuel, vibrate less, throw harder, and require less horsepower to chip the larger diameter material.
The approximate weight of this unit, depending upon selected options, is 12,500 pounds. This includes the durable 55 inch diameter by 2 inch thick chipper disc with cupped throwers allowing it to capture and throw material out of the discharge at a high velocity, fully loading chip vans to their maximum capacity. The Model 280XP HD boasts a solid chassis construction using continuous steel welds for structural integrity as opposed to bolt-together techniques. Component weight is distributed and supported on a sturdy, balanced frame that provides the necessary physical reinforcement for chipping while allowing the machine to be towed easily. The Model 280XP HD rides on tandem 7,000 pound Torflex axles with 235/85R 16 inch tires.
The steel fuel tank on the Model 280XP HD holds 40 gallons, and the steel hydraulic tank has 30 gallon capacity. The discharge on the Model 280XP HD can manually rotate 360 degrees and has an adjustable deflector for directional control of the broadcasted chips. Optional upgrades including a reversing auto feed system, swivel and height adjustable discharge options, hydraulic winch, and a hydraulic lift cylinder for simplifying your operation. Deluxe option packages and / or bundles are also available. A full palette of standard and custom paint colors gives you the freedom to choose the look to fit your brand or company.
A serious option worth considering is that the Model 280XP HD can be equipped with a Model 75 knuckle boom loader. The loader unit is best suited for feeding large piles of brush into the chipper, reducing labor and fuel costs. It can come equipped with radio remote controls or swing-out operator's console with joystick controls. A 360-degree rotating grapple can reach out and pull in large diameter materials and entangled brush piles. Adding the loader increases the machine weight to approximately 14,750 pounds because the fuel and hydraulic tanks are upgraded to larger capacities and the infeed hopper is strengthened with the same tapered style used on our Model 1850 whole tree chipper with a 30 inch weld-on tray.
The Model 280XP, as with all Bandit chippers, is designed and equipped with operator safety in mind. Standard items that accommodate any chipper package include guards that cover all moving parts, engine disabling plugs, disc / drum locks, wooden push paddles, safety control bar, and other Bandit patented and patent pending devices such as the "last chance" cables. Also, all components on Bandit chippers are designed to be easily accessible to save time on routine maintenance schedules and to reduce downtime by being more serviceable out in the field. Thus, Bandit chippers have proven over time to be the best economical decision you can make for a long-term investment in a brush chipper.
