Standard Features

The Model 990XP is equipped to provide the quality and performance expected from a Bandit chipper. The compact design of this unit allows for easy transportation from one location to the next. It boasts a solid chassis construction using continuous steel welds for structural integrity as opposed to bolt-together techniques so it can provide years of dependable service for tree care workers, rental companies, and individual owners wanting to chip limby, hard-to-manage material and some whole trees.
The heart of the Model 990XP is the 24 inch diameter by 18-3/4 inch wide drum, equipped with 4 staggered knife pockets and dual-edge reversible knives. 4 knives allow for more cuts per revolution and a smoother chipping action with longer knife life. A 3-1/2 inch diameter chipper shaft with 2-15/16 inch pillow-block mounted roller bearings provide durability and longevity against the stresses of chipping applications, reducing maintenance costs. Component weight is distributed and supported on a sturdy, balanced frame that provides the necessary physical reinforcement for chipping yet allowing the machine to be towed and maneuvered easily. The Model 990XP rides on a Torflex 7,000 pound axle with (2) 245/75R 16 inch tires and weighs in at approximately 5,200 pounds.
The feed system on the Model 990XP provides exceptional pulling and compressing power that will increase production. It features a chipper throat opening of 13 inches by 17 inches and 2 horizontal feed wheels that are 7-1/2 inches in diameter by 17 inches wide powered by (2) 15.5 CID hydraulic motors situated in Bandit's patented and proven slide box feed system. This system has the ability to process limby, forked, and hard-to-manage material thus increasing production while reducing trimming, chainsaw work, and operator fatigue. A fast feed rate of 115 feet per minute can easily keep two people busy feeding it. Material is fed and chipped on the bottom half of the drum, giving the knives the opportunity to cut inline with the grain of the wood instead of against it therefore, promoting smoother operation and less vibration while requiring less horsepower.
The Model 990XP has a much smoother and longer angled transition out of the drum housing and up into the discharge chute. This design allows it to throw material harder, compacting chip trucks better and reducing trips to the dump site. Other factors that maximizes chip throwing power include deep knife pockets that capture and throw the material out of the drum housing, side drum paddles and adjustable side vents that assist in generating proper air flow, and our patented power slot positioned on the back side of the drum housing that increases air flow and practically eliminates the chance of plugging. The discharge on the Model 990XP can manually rotate 360 degrees and has an adjustable deflector for directional control of the broadcasted chips.
A 24-1/2 gallon fuel tank provides for more than a day's worth of fuel for the Model 990XP. Recent fuel consumption test results have shown that Bandit drum-style chippers are much more efficient than other chippers in the same category or class when it comes to production versus costs.
Popular options can also be added to this unit to increase production and decrease operator fatigue. Optional upgrades including a reversing auto feed system, swivel and height adjustable discharge options, hydraulic winch, hydraulic lift cylinder, and a hydraulic pressure check kit. Deluxe option packages and / or bundles are available. A full palette of standard and custom paint colors gives you the freedom to choose the look to fit your brand or company.
The Model 990XP, as with all Bandit chippers, is designed and equipped with operator safety in mind. Standard items that accommodate any chipper package include guards that cover all moving parts, engine disabling plugs, disc / drum locks, wooden push paddles, safety control bar, and other Bandit patented and patent pending devices such as the "last chance" cables. Also, all components on Bandit chippers are designed to be easily accessible to save time on routine maintenance schedules and to reduce downtime by being more serviceable out in the field. Thus, Bandit chippers have proven over time to be the best economical decision you can make for a long-term investment in a brush chipper.
